Brenda’s interest and practice of meditation started as a teenage elite athlete. She began and ended each workout with yoga and meditation. The transformative effect, allowing focus and calm, stayed with her from athletics to university, to employment and eventually to role of wife, mother and business owner. Brenda enjoyed the beauty of being in the flow of life.
However, a few years ago she was in a propane explosion that was devastating. Her injuries matched those of her home: shell in tact, but the inside destroyed. The symbolism was not lost on her. Her life as she knew it was gone and she was required to build and heal both physical and spiritual homes. Brenda asserts “You don’t need to be in an explosion to know what it feels like emotionally to have your world blow up. This can occur through many life events like divorce, a parent’s death, moving, or a health crisis….the list is long and varied.”
Injuries to Brenda’s brain, central nervous system, lungs, ears and sinuses as well as a healthy dose of PTSD plagued her. Brenda was determined to go beyond the labels and obvious deficiencies and instead focus on healing from the inside out. How to get back into the joy and flow of life became her goal.
So began the journey to self directed health and wellness. A deepening of her meditation practice facilitated a direct shift in the way she experiences life, now characterized by great joy, peace, and vitality.
Creating space for grace, Brenda decided to give herself permission to heal in a way that spoke to her. Practicing mindful speech and action has allowed her to break the cycles of incessant or negative chatter in the mind. In fact, breaking the fear-based thought patterns has positively influenced the level of pain she may experience with migraines not to mention the state of mental calm which now pervades. Brenda knows that one may experience pain, but does not have to suffer in this state.
For Brenda meditation, mindfulness and yoga became the portals to vibrancy of mind, body and soul. She underscores that practice with caring for family and her ever growing animal kingdom, gardening, cooking, interior design and spending time in nature.
Today, Brenda is a Certified McLean Meditation Instructor and teaches the SEED method. Simple Easy Every Day. Brenda has become immersed and educated in the science behind meditation, which now compliments her 35 years of practice.
She is now in the position to share her skills.
